The sport of golf in the Philippines is overseen by the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP), which was originally founded as the Philippine Amateur Golf Association (PAGA) in 1961 and later reconstituted under its current name.
NGAP is the national federation affiliated with the International Golf Federation and is responsible for selecting national teams, organising championships, and coordinating development programmes.
In parallel, professional/tour circuits in the country are organised under entities such as Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc. (PGTI) and the Professional Golfers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PGAP).
PGTI, for instance, has a stated mission “to advance the growth of professional golf in the Philippines and promote the country’s top championship courses as venues for international tournaments.”
2. National Team Composition & Recent Performance
The Philippine national golf team (men’s and women’s divisions) draws talent from the country’s top amateur and professional golfers. In recent years, the teams have earned increasing recognition in regional competitions. For example, the women’s squad, anchored by players such as Lois Kaye Go, secured gold in both individual and team events at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (hosted at Luisita, Tarlac) and then followed with a team bronze at the next edition in Vietnam.
In 2023, the national team entered more strategically, with the mindset of “flying there thinking that we can win the gold medal,” according to national coach Miko Alejandro.
However, some administrative or logistical challenges have surfaced — for instance, in 2023 the Philippine Olympic Committee and NGAP requested a lineup change for the team prior to the Asian Games, which was denied by the organising committee.

The programme has a clear set of strategic goals, including:
- Developing “world-class Philippine golfers” by identifying and supporting talented players both domestically and internationally.
- Promoting the Philippines as a premier destination for professional golf tournaments, leveraging courses and events to enhance the country’s reputation in the golf industry.
- Strengthening the pipeline for juniors and amateurs, so that the national team is sustainable and competitive. In this regard the “Junior PGT” (Junior Philippine Golf Tour) was introduced to give younger golfers sustained exposure.
4. Domestic Tour & Competitive Ecosystem
The domestic landscape of professional golf in the Philippines is anchored by the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT), which was founded in 2009 and serves as a key platform for Filipino professionals.
Through such tours and domestic championships, national team players gain competitive experience and selection opportunities. The post-pandemic era has seen a resurgence of domestic tournaments (in both men’s and women’s circuits) and a strong focus on expanding junior development.
